Conclusion: One big surprise in the Microsoft Word document test; the huge lead of PAQ8 over the other programs. The jpeg model in PAQ8 correctly detects a large embedded jpeg (Stuffit probably isn't able to find inline images) in the DOC file. It's able to compress this embedded JPG with PAQ's special optimised JPG compression algorithm. Doing so PAQ8 takes first place with a whopping 200(!!) KB. I'm not sure if StuffIt is capable of detecting these inline images, but in this test it seems to miss them. If you have files with embedded images (e.g. Word DOC files) use PAQ8, it will recognize them and separately compress them, boosting compression significantly.

The difference between the compressed archive size of the second best program (WinRK) and the worst well know program (Winzip 8.0) is just over 45% which is much smaller then most other tests.
